Mating Separation Anxiety Headcanons!

-Mates will usually take a week or so off after they mate, kind of like a honeymoon. This is usually because they can’t handle/don’t want to leave their mate.

-After their vacation, mates (especially omegas) will go to work/school/etc. wearing at least one article of their mate’s clothing. Having their scent around soothes the anxiety of being away from their mate.

-Lots of nesting/cuddling after mating because omegas crave attention from their alpha and nesting is the best way for alphas to scent mark them.

-Individuals will get anxious/annoyed/angry if they’ve gone a whilw without seeing their mate. This can last anywhere from a month to a year after mating.

-Lots of hand holding and non-sexual touching for reassurance. If an alpha and their mate is talking to someone, they’ll usually wrap their arm around their mate as a way of showing their possession.

This is for all the my fellow Alpha ladies lol

- Female Alphas may not be in general as broad and as sturdy as male Alphas, but that doesn’t mean they are weak at all. Infact female Alphas compose the biggest chunk of Alpha deadlifting tornament competitors.

- That is in part because Alpha females tend to be more loners than Alpha males. Alpha males tend to prefer sports and activities where they can mingle with other Alphas, and while a lot of female Alphas do too, the great majory would rather spend their free time alone or with their mate and/or close ones.

- Alpha females are also the most spiteful. Alphas tend to not seek pointless fights and empty statements. But if you want to see that happen just try and tell a female Alpha she isn’t capable of doing something. “Blind determination” is in part mostly an Alpha trade because of the female chunk of the dynamics lol.

- This also shows when it comes to mates. A lot of people say that female Alphas should just stick to Omega females because they “stand a better chance this way”. In response to that female Alphas will seek male Omegas, female Betas and even male Betas in a single night just to shove it in the person’s face that “they can win whoever the fuck they please, thank you very much”

- A lot of female Alphas end up ingressing in a musical or sport-related carreer because they are so disciplined and determined. If you had to choose a general defect for most female Alphas it would be “perfectionism”. This also goes for military.

- For some reason most female Alphas in the military are in the air force.

- In Europe and America the female soccer championships are more watched and sponsored than the male ones. In America and Canada same goes for baseball and hockey respectively.

- A considerable percentage of female Alphas have long hair, even if it’s not a very “Alpha” hair style. However, in most case’s it’s not out of spite (ironically enough). It’s because most of them are too lazy to actually cut it.

- Between Female Alphas and Male Alphas, Female Alphas like sweets the least.

- It is not known why, but a huge number of female Alphas have peanut allergy.

- Most classic composers were actually Alpha females (and Beta males).

- Alpha females communicate way more through tact in comparison to Alpha males. It’s not nearly as much as Betas or Omegas, but still a lot considering Alphas are known to be either silent and communicate mostly through scent or loud and have little scent variation.

- In resume Alpha females are wonderful beans ready to give and receive lots of love.

Nuisances and Stuff that’d not be quite the same in Omegaverse.

Sometimes I feel like we just don’t really think about certain things that would change in Omegaverse because we either don’t really think about it, or just because it’s easier to pretend it wouldn’t exist given it could take a bit of the whole “wonder” and “self-projection” aspect of it away. But I love thinking about these kinds of things and I hope this list does not ruin Omegaverse for you that much lol.

Worth noting this is all in accordance to my verse (ptpverse), so feel free to desagree with anything. 

• From the mid 70s until the early 2000s most people who worked in enclosed areas like office works and malls, or even people that took public transportation on a daily basis, didn’t really like cinnamon and cloves all that much. The reason being because most ASN units (Ambient Scent Neutralizer) released a similar scent to it in order to compensate for its less efficient form of neutralizing all people’s scent in the room constantly. These were considered cheap and neutral scents so they were used almost everywhere that had an old-fashioned ASN unit. Thus, people would refrain from adding it to stuff because it “smelled like work/the subway”. 

• Omegas don’t really like wearing makeup that much. Well not just Omegas, but people that constantly scent their own stuff and others would refrain from wearing a lot of makeup particularly on their skin and especially around their neck where their scent glands are located. It suffocates most people and makes their sensitive glands very itchy. Not to mention it gets everywhere. It’s a nuisance to clean and to hunt down for products that won’t irritate their skin or modify their scent in some way. Same goes for perfumes. Most of the cosmetic industry would be focused on skin care, clearance and scent enhancers rather than makeup.

• Laundry is just hell. Exactly because aside from normal bodily fluids everyone has a scent that not only easily clings to everything around it, but also fluctuates depending on mood, people just have to have more clothes and clean them more often. Not to mention bedding sets that have the same problem + Omegas hogging them all for nests, not to mention messier stuff like heats and ruts… Most people have a huge chunk of their closets if not an entire closet on its own dedicated solely for sheets, covers, etc. 

• Architecture and constructing is just such a pain in the ass. Both to regular homes, professional and public environments. When it comes to house planning said extra walk-in closets, or just having more space in general for extra furniture (in case walk-in closets are not yer thing), heat/rut rooms (that have to be sound and scent proofed), reinforcing doors and windows in said rooms. Same for schools and companies that have to provide for similar emergency rooms. It can be extremely money and time consuming. 

• Work schedules and payment for Alphas and Omegas can become real hell depending on their personal choices. Work places cannot legally stop paying their employees even when they take “recovery leaves” for either pregnancies or what they are mostly used for: A period of time where one needs to stop taking supressants and allow their body to have a normal rut/heat. However, they can if you your cycles are regular and not supressed. To be fair that is a thing from company to company, but since there is no evidence that supressants are harmful as long as this leave be taken every three cycles, (aka every 12 months) there is nothing stopping companies that “highly suggest” their employees take supressants from discounting from their salary if they take a regular heat/rut leave every 3 months.

• Toothbrushes and phones can get some serious damage depending on how sharp ones nails and teeth can be. Tooth brushes are almost disposable given they cannot help the teeth they use for marking. But nails are always just a dumb move on the part of the people. Not that the toothbrush and protective screen fabricants are complaining about it. To be fair it is substantially harder so cut or file nails because they are much stronger and dense.

_◆ They are not your personal attack dogs. Alphas can and will protect the ones they love and those in need without hesitation when necessary, but they are not pit bulls in a short leash for others to entice and intimidate others with. They have feelings and values and most would hate to be responsible for someone else’s unwarranted harm. 

_◆ They need devotion too. Much like Alphas are not just wardrobes for anyone to parade around as their security system they are also not your subservient dogs. Alphas need as much comprehension, support and self-sacrifice from their mate as they try to give it to them. The easiest way to make an Alpha miserable is to ask everything of them and give nothing in return because “they are the ones who are supposed to be providers anyway”.

_◆ Alphas have sentiments and can be very self-conscious. They try their best not to be seen as inherently dangerous and feral-prone. Acting and saying insensitive things like how “unsafe” it is to have them around for some reason when you’re a loved one can really get to them. They are used to being seen as selfish, brutes, predatory and savages and do their best to shrug it off when it comes from strangers. However, when it comes from a loved one it really hurts their self-esteem.

_◆ Alphas can and do have a lot of self-esteem issues. There is pressure everywhere for them to be loving and caring towards their mate to a fault, to always be in control of the situation, to be successful, to being good fathers/adas, to be comprehensive and a leader, all in addition to dealing with all the negative stigma they get from their dynamics alone. They often fear they are not good enough and that they’re enable to fulfil anything in their lives for themselves because “they can’t even get the expectations right, let alone other things that they wish to pursue”. 

_◆ They love their families too and when an Alpha is abandoned with their child by their mate (or if their mate passed away) it hurts just as much and they need as much help, confort and support as any other person. Just because they weren’t the ones that physically carried the pup doesn’t mean they are any less devastated, lost and in need of help. Toss a fucker a bone, ey? Some compassion for an Alpha in such a shit situation would not hurt. 

_◆ Overall Alphas can and are just as vulnerable as Betas and Omegas. They are constantly reduced to agressive hunks of meat with nothing but predatory instincts and all the advantages in life, when in reality they struggle a lot more then they let it show and can be just as hurt and made miserable by anyone else. So give Alphas some love, please? ;-;

• the abused omega would probably be afraid of most alphas and be very skittish of the ones they did know
• maybe the omega is strong and hid the abuse for a long time until someone noticed they had bruises, were skinnier, etc. 
• they do not take anger or yelling well, and will most likely run to their nest or a safe place and cry
• or call up one of their omega friends to calm them down
• they’d probably only trust alphas if they were family (brother, sister, mom, dad, etc.) unless they were the abusers
• the omega would probably have therapy sessions, and the therapist would probably be either beta or omega
• it would take a little, but soon the omega would trust them and spill everything going on to the therapist
• when the omega goes out in public and is around alphas, they’d probably release a scent that smells like distress, and that would get to the alphas
• they’d crowd around the omega asking what’s wrong and that only makes the smell thicker and stronger
• their beta friend has to move them away from that situation because the omega might have a panic attack if near that many alphas at once
• the omega during heat has one of their beta friends on speed dial just in case
• an alpha starts courting the omega not knowing about their past, and the beta or omega friend has to tell them
• the alpha proceeds in courting them and the omega’s so nervous about it that they can’t sleep well
• they receive courting gifts such as very soft blankets and pillows and yummy food and the omega wonders if the alpha will really be that kind and not like their previous experiences
• eventually, the omega decides to give the alpha a try and actually really likes them
• a year later, they’re happily mated (maybe with pups on the way), and the omega is so content and happy even after what had happened in their past. they’re incredibly thankful to the alpha for not giving up on them

Single Headcanon #2

Alphas can howl when grieving.

Usually neither one of the dynamics can howl. They might purr, snarl, croon, growl and whimper, but howling is something that people believe has died with past evolutionary forms.

For the most part that is.

It is said that if something hurts an Alpha to a point that his/her very soul is damaged to no repair. If something manages to be violant to such a degree that all that Alpha has left to express their barren state of mind is their most animalistic and primitive side. That grief will manifest through howling.

Many myths and stories throughout the world have been built around it too. Folklore would say that an Alpha’s howl would be so loud that it could travel miles and miles, infecting other Alphas who’d join them. Driving these mad and melancholic, sometimes to the point of taking their own lives. Others would associate it with mythical creatures in older times, like werewolves trying to lurk prey in, using their pained calling to lure them and gain sympathy. Bad luck, disease, famine and one’s approaching death all have been associated with hearing an Alpha’s howl.

In modern times however it is known that howling is part-genetic, part-mentality. Some Alphas cannot howl no matter how sad and angry they feel, others cannot do it until they become the pack’s Alpha, some can only do it as a mimicking response to their pack Alpha.

Generally speaking a group of Alphas is more likely to howl if their pack’s Alpha is able to in the first place. Specialists believe it is an ingrained behaviour in their biology, not something one voluntarily chooses to do. As it all indicates they do it out of sympathy and/or because they share some sort of deeper bond unbeknownst to others or even themselves that allows them to feel a similar level of grief to their leader’s.

Some cases of mass hysteria involving howling Alphas have also gone on record. While not common, they always seemed to have happened in times of extreme social/cultural disorder. Like wars, catastrophe, epidemics and natural disasters.
